Library Cards
Getting a library card is easy!
If you live in Polk City or another Iowa community, stop in to the library with your photo ID and a piece of mail you’ve received that shows your current physical address (no PO Boxes) and fill out a quick form. That’s all there is to it.
If you live in an Iowa community without a library, your community must contract with another library before we can issue you a library card.
If you live in rural Polk County, the Polk City Community Library is your "home library" if you reside in Lincoln, Madison or Union townships. This means you will have access to all physical and digital resources.
- If you live in any other township, you will only have access to our physical materials with the exception of hotspots and chromebooks.
- Click here to determine the township in which you reside.
- Enter your address.
- Click the 3 dots in the bottom right corner of the "Search results" and click "Add a Marker".
- Click on the HOME symbol.
- Your marker will appear in a colored area. Click on the colored circle that corresponds with the color where your pin landed to find your home library.
- You can get more information about the Polk County Home Library program here.
