Polk City awarded REAP Grant

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has awarded Polk City as a recipient for the 2024 Resource Enhancement and Protection grant. This was a competitive grant that only 39 cities throughout the state were selected to receive funding. REAP funds (derived from gaming revenues) are appropriated by the Iowa Legislature and signed into law by the Governor. Polk City received allocated funds in the amount of $100,000 for city parks and open spaces.

The funds awarded will be used towards the connection of the Neal Smith Trail to the High Trestle Trail through Polk City. The DNR administers the city grant program. City officials representing the Iowa Park and Recreation Association and League of Cities select which projects receive funding.

The City of Polk City is honored to be selected for this opportunity and is excited to use these funds towards the trail connection.
