Current Public Improvement Projects
Water Tower Project
Construction of the water main extension and tank have begun. Footings have been placed, and weather
permitting the base of the tower construction will proceed during the winter season. Construction of the project
is estimated to be completed May of 2026.
2025 Street Repairs Project
The bid opening for this project was held on October 2, 2024 and produced nine (9) bidders. The
low bidder was MNM Concrete Specialist. The City Council accepted this bid, awarded the
contract, and approved the contract and bond with MNM Concrete Specialist on October 14,
2024. Snyder & Associates and Polk City Public Works held a pre-construction meeting with the
COctober 14, 2024, City Council Work Session. Snyder & Associates will coordinate with City Staff to
mobilized to the project and began work the week of October 21, 2024. Areas of work will include:

1222 Sunset Street, 1320 Hugg Drive, 405 W. Trace Drive, 425-520 W. Trace Drive. Weather permitting, the
Contractor has indicated that they plan to have work on this project completed by the end of the
2024 construction season. Snyder & Associates and Polk City Public Works will monitor
weather forecasts and project progress to ensure that, should the weather make construction
infeasible, no patching locations are left open over the winter. If weather permits the sod for the
project to be established this fall, the project could be closed out before the end of the calendar year,
but this project may continue into Spring 2025 if sod establishment cannot be confirmed this fall.

Polk City Junction Trail Project
Preliminary Design has been completed for the trail project that will connect the High Trestle Trail (HTT)

to the Neal Smith Trail (NST). The project is broken out in to multiple phases as shown below.
Phase 2 - trail across the School site has been completed. Phase 1, 4, & 5 that will connect Phase 2 segment
along N 3rd up to the square and through the Deer Haven/Crossroads at the Lakes subdivisions to Bridge Rd are

Sump Pump Collector Lines Project
The Professional Services Agreement for this project was approved on August 26, 2024. Since that time,

Snyder & Associates has walked the anticipated project areas with Polk City Public Works to identify high
priority areas, potential complications, general layout of the existing utilities, and other site-specific information.
Snyder & Associates has compiled information on several previous projects of similar scope that have been
completed by other municipalities around the Des Moines Metro Area for reference in preparing the project documents.
Connection of the adjacent properties to the new sump pump collector lines was discussed at the October 14, 2024,
City Council Work Session. Snyder & Associates will coordinate with City Staff to facilitate conversations with impacted
property owners. Snyder & Associates currently intends to bid the project this winter, with construction commencing
sometime during the 2025 construction season.
S. 3rd Street Trail Extension Project
This project is currently in the preliminary design phase. The topographic and boundary survey
for this project has been completed and Snyder & Associates is currently preparing preliminary
plans to show general horizontal and vertical layouts for review by City Staff. Snyder & Associates intends
